Baybayin 200 Binhagan

Executive Summary:

Baybayin200 began on the approverd time on the 9th day of August 2021 with a total of 22 registered students and 17 among them are Professional Teachers and finished on the 15th day of August 2021 with all participants successfully finishing the course. Every lecture had an allotted time of 2 hours of instruction but almost all sessions lasted around 2.5 hours due to the interest shown by the participants during the discussions and sharing of ideas. On top of the allotted time of 2 hours, participants did the evaluations during their own time and was given within 12hours to finish. ZOOM was used during the online class and also during the breakout sessions where students were able to engage with one another to discuss their ideas about the various topics of the course from the revitalization of the Baybayin writing system to its relationship to the cultural, psychological, and social well being of Filipinos. Such discussion was crucial in their understanding of the course objectives as it is also essential in how they can implement such understanding in their classrooms. Every lecture ended with workshops called SULAWIKAIN—a portmanteau of sulat and wikain—where participants were given "real life" opportunities to implement the theoretical knowledge from the lecture. During these workshops, participants also learned the other writing systems used in the Philippines such as the Hanunuo, Buhid, and Tagbanwa scripts. Evaluations for each lecture was done to measure the program objectives.

Towards the end of the course, participants were expected to present a final project (see attached files of their final project with the KBL14 slides) to demonstrate their understanding of the said program and how they can teach this to their current and future students.

In totality, Baybayin 200 provided the participants, especially the Professional Teachers, the holistic knowledge of the Philippine Writing Systems from its theories, implementation, and application to cultural and socio-psychological well-being. Indeed, this knowledge will serve as a great tool for teachers of various levels of knowledge and proficiency to use during their classroom discussions and help their students gain a better cultural clarity especially during the rapid spread and threat of social media and globalization to the understanding of our Filipino culture.
